Sith Bunsorng: From Learning by Habit to Learning with Purpose

Through FLC training in English, computer, and soft skills, Sith Bunsorng developed initiative and clearer goals. He moved from studying out of habit toward learning with purpose, while his family continues to face higher-education expenses.

Sith Bunsorng

Mr. Sith Bunsorng is a 20-year-old second-year Civil Engineering student at the National University of Battambang (NUBB). He comes from Kaong Kang Village, Thma Koul District, Battambang Province. Before joining the FLC Scholarship Program, he came from a family with a moderate living condition and did not face major personal challenges. However, like many young students, he lacked a clear sense of direction regarding his future and was primarily studying out of routine rather than with a defined purpose and long-term goals.

The Challenge

Although he did not experience significant barriers in accessing education, his family still faced financial pressures. One of the ongoing concerns was the financial burden placed on his family due to his older brother’s educational expenses. His brother had previously received a scholarship, but after it expired before the completion of his studies, the family had to provide additional financial support. This situation created concerns about household finances and highlighted the importance of educational assistance.

PKO's Response

Through the FLC Scholarship Program, he received opportunities to strengthen his personal and professional development. The program provided training in soft skills, English language learning, and computer skills while also helping him understand the value of continuous learning and self-improvement. Through interactions with teachers, mentors, and fellow students, he gained exposure to new perspectives and experiences that encouraged him to think more seriously about his future.

Change & Impact

The support provided by FLC contributed significantly to Bunsorng’s personal growth. He describes his transformation as moving from a student who learned out of habit and lacked clarity to becoming a person with initiative, purpose, and practical skills. The program helped him develop greater self-awareness, confidence, and motivation to pursue his goals. In addition to gaining technical and language skills, he learned how to take ownership of his future and become more proactive in his personal development.

Remaining challenges: While he has benefited greatly from the scholarship program, financial challenges remain a concern for his family. Supporting multiple children in higher education requires considerable resources, and the family continues to face additional expenses. However, the scholarship support has helped ease part of this burden and enabled him to continue focusing on his studies.

Beneficiary Quote :

“The support from FLC changed my life from being someone who studied only out of habit and lacked a clear direction into a person who has ownership, clear goals, and real capabilities. The program helped me understand who I want to become and how I can work toward that future.”
