Mr. Phann Samet is a 19-year-old second-year Civil Engineering student at the National University of Battambang (NUBB). He comes from Svay Chhouy Village, Andeuk Baeb Commune, Ratanak Mondul District, Battambang Province. Before joining the FLC Scholarship Program, Samet’s family faced financial challenges in supporting his education. The costs of university tuition, rental accommodation, and daily living expenses placed a considerable burden on his family, making it difficult to fully focus on his studies and personal development.

One of the biggest challenges Samet faced was his limited English language proficiency. As a university student pursuing a technical field, he understood that English skills were increasingly important for accessing academic resources, conducting research, and preparing for future employment opportunities. However, the cost of language courses and additional training made it difficult for him to improve these skills independently.

Through the FLC Scholarship Program, Samet received access to free educational opportunities that helped address both financial and learning barriers. The program provided English language learning, computer training, research opportunities, and practical experiences that complemented his university studies. By participating in FLC activities, he gained access to valuable knowledge and learning resources without the financial burden of additional tuition fees.

As a result of his participation in the program, Samet strengthened his English language skills and gained practical experience that improved his confidence and professional readiness. He developed a better understanding of research methods and enhanced his ability to work with others. These experiences have contributed positively to both his academic development and future career preparation.

Remaining challenges: At present, he does not identify any major challenges affecting his participation in education or the program. The support and opportunities he has received through FLC have helped him overcome many of the barriers he previously faced.
